Our Committee
The day-to-day work of a branch is overseen by a committee of elected members who are also known as union representatives. Union representatives are volunteers who carry out and support the work of the union.

Our union representatives work in post production just like you as Editors, Assistant Editors, Runners, ADR & Dialogue Editors. We believe in the power of working together through the union to improve our pay and working conditions and volunteer our time to lead the branch.

We work across scripted, unscripted and short form as freelancers and staff in post production facilities and departments within production companies. Check out our latest work for members in Offline and VFX Editorial, Post Sound and Music and Post Production Facilities.
Would you like to support the work of the branch, develop your skills or join discussions on how to improve our working hours and conditions, training or welfare for you and your colleagues? Please fill out our Rep Enquiry Form.

We meet with our branch members, listen to their queries, and discuss how we can support them in regular meetings. We confidently promote their interests through impactful campaigns and projects such as our mentoring schemes, assistant editor's toolkits and rate cards that are widely advertised throughout the Post-Production community.

We also send representatives from our Committee to negotiations with Industry bodies, such as the collective representing production companies, PACT, which inform contracts, deal memos and agreements in Film and TV.

What roles are there in the Committee?

Everyone on the Committee plays a valuable part in running the branch. We participate in meetings, projects, events and discussions such as the mentoring scheme, rate cards and assistant editor’s toolkit, to improve working conditions, grow the community and support members.

We work by a “little and often” and “many hands makes light work” approach to ensure work is spread evenly among members and we always accommodate individual personal and work commitments when scheduling our meetings and deadlines.

Different people take on different roles in the Committee based on their individual interests and skills. Some members help with a particular project, like the Rate Cards, or a specific task, like our social media, website, or minutes writing. The Chair, Secretary and Bectu Official regularly check in with, train up and support all members of the Committee to allow the committee to thrive.

If you want to get something done, there's no better way than doing it through our branch.
For example, Eleanor a 2nd Assistant Editor felt there was a gap in the training and guidance for Editorial Trainees and Assistant Editors from her own experience in the industry. She utilised the resources, network and finances of our branch and Bectu to create the Assistant Editor's Toolkit with other members of the Committee. Now we have an Assistant Editor's Toolkit which has been widely shared and advertised at post production events across the community. Being part of the branch means that there are no barriers, financial challenges nor endless chains of approval for us ourselves as Assistants, Trainees and Editors to develop resources and guidance to improve our own working lives and the functioning of our teams. Being part of the union is all about working together to make the change.

Feel the reward of helping you and your colleagues

Through the Committee you can truly make a difference, to not only your life but the lives of your friends and colleagues.
