OUR COMMITTEE

WHAT DOES THE COMMIttee do?

Our Committee consists of volunteers who advocate for better working conditions in post-production.

We meet with our branch members, listen to their queries, and discuss how we can support them in regular meetings.

We confidently promote their interests through impactful campaigns and innovative projects widely advertised throughout the Post-Production community.

We also send representatives from our Committee to negotiations with Industry bodies, such as PACT, which inform contracts, deal memos and agreements in Features, Factual, TV Drama and Post Sound.

COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

Our Committee is organised into sub-divisions based on different genres and areas of picture and sound editorial: Facilities, Factual, Feature Film, Post Sound, Short Form, and TV Drama. We also have working groups focused on specific issues such as Environment and Sustainability, Equality and Diversity, Training and Junior Grades.

Our sub-divisions and working groups meet separately to develop their campaigns and projects and then gather in meetings to give reports on ongoing work, present ideas for new projects and discuss any issues that have arisen since the last meeting. This allows us to efficiently concentrate on and delve further into specific issues affecting different areas of Post Production. We are keen to expand our Facilities, Feature Film, Post Sound and Short Form teams, so please get in touch if you want to learn more!

The Post Production & Facilities Branch is part of the London Production Division (LPD). LPD is the largest division of BECTU and represents the craft branches such as the Art Department and the Costume Branch. We send representatives to LPD Committee meetings to advocate for our issues in front of other branches.

ROLES IN THE COMMITTEE

Being a Committee Member means you are a representative for Post Production. Your role includes one or more of the following elements:

  • Advice: Supporting members with their queries, not necessarily able to answer all the questions, but pointing them in the right direction or asking the Committee

  • Representation and advocacy: standing by a member's side or speaking on their behalf at meetings

  • Negotiation: helping to improve local working conditions.

  • Liaison and consultation: Passing information upwards, downwards and sideways; representing members' views to BECTU.

  • Organisation: organising the branch and strengthening its position in the workplace.

  • Democracy: representing members' views in developing the union's policies.

Our BECTU Union Organising Official works full-time for the union and is our access point to most BECTU communication and information. They attend all our Committee and Branch meetings to advise us, provide support and respond to members' issues.
