Prospect National Conference 2026: Highlights and Debrief

From the 6th - 9th of June, Prospect, Bectu’s parent union, brought together many branches from a wide range of industries, including heritage, public services, and defence, to vote on the priorities of the union.

Branches voted on a variety of issues, from the union's own organisation, finance and structure to what campaigns to endorse regarding AI, paternity leave, trans rights, international relations and many others.

Post Production and Facilities sent 5 delegates to Brighton to attend Prospect National Conference and vote, representing the 800+ members of our branch.

General motions affecting our members

We’d like to highlight these key motions that will affect our members around some of the discussions happening in our branch:

• Motion 13 - Sunday - Bectu Subscriptions - Bectu union fees have a plan to come down to meet the rest of the Prospect union rates. 

• Motion 24 - Monday - The Right to Opt Out of Generative AI in Creative & Technical Roles

• Motion 76 - Monday - Discount on Adobe subscriptions - Prospect is to negotiate a discount for members of the union.

Our motions rundown

Post Production & Facilities put forward five motions at this conference, and the results are below:

• Motion 43 - Sunday - Forgive Student Loan Debts: remitted However Motion 42: Ending Inflation-Driven Student Debt Escalation was carried which also asked to lobby for student loan reform. 

• Motion 74 - Monday - Distribute conference information directly to members - passed

• Motion 75 - Monday - Send communications to Chairs, Vice Chairs and Assistant Secretaries as well as Secretaries - passed

• Motion 26 - Tuesday - Two-way arms embargo with Israel - passed

• Motion 27 - Tuesday - End trade with companies involved with genocide - passed

Join us at our next meeting on the 13th July 2026 from 7:30-9:00 PM to hear the report back from the branch's delegates on conference. What it is, how it went, key motions that will affect you and how you can get involved. Non-members are welcome, so please invite your colleagues.

The next step is Bectu sector conference, in May 2027. 

Prospect union and sector conferences alternate yearly. The Bectu conference will focus on what affects us most directly, with branches from broadcasting, entertainment, communications, and theatre attending. Inform us of what you'd like to see the branch address next, and join us to learn how you can be an active participant in branch projects.

Why this is important

At conference we discuss a broad range of topics from workplace rights and equality, through to the rise of the far right and geopolitics. It’s important that we keep these conversations going at branch level so that we know how best to represent our members and prepare the next delegates to bring our causes forward.

Being part of the union goes beyond showing up to meetings. It can be taking part in our mentorship scheme, talking about your rates with co-workers, and helping a colleague understand their contract. These small steps all contribute to building a stronger union that creates a better workplace for all.
